Not a whole lot to say regarding the cultivation of all these e-mails from sport governing bodies in the United States and beyond, so I guess I can talk about some of the sports that I have come across in the process. There is a good chance that I am looking for far more than what the ICC needs in terms of contacts, but I am going to leave that up to them to decide which sports they really want to target. I just want to take a no stone unturned approach to my research, like I might if I was still a journalist. You cannot begin to grasp just how many competitions exist out there until you have gone through the work I have.
I spent the evening working on the Paralympics. I hope I can properly explain this, but it is basically the Olympics for athletes who have physical limitations. The host city for the Olympic Games also welcomes Paralympians at a different time, utilizing many of the same venues for both events. Over 180 nations have a Paralympic delegation, according to my contact list. Some other activities I have discovered in my data gathering include orienteering, a competition where you have to find your way to a predetermined location with a map (OrienteeringUSA, n.d.). Even though it has been on TV for a long time, I have never actually seen an episode of The Amazing Race, but I imagine its concept was formed out of orienteering. There really is something for everyone.
